Common Questions

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT WHEN I VISIT?
It is our hope that you will feel extremely welcomed the moment you arrive. Come early if you’d like, grab a cup of coffee and make some new friends. If you have children, you can drop them off in our fun-loving, clean and safe Preschool or Children’s Ministry, before heading into the worship center for a passionate, contemporary worship experience and a practical message from God’s Word. No matter what your background is or what you believe, you will be welcomed at Refuge Church because we believe that this is a reflection of God’s heart!

If you are visiting for the first time, we will not embarrass you, have you stand up, or ask you to give money. Our heart is that you enjoy yourself in a relaxed, life-giving environment where you can learn about growing in your relationship with God, connecting with others, and most of all, experiencing God’s love for you.

WHEN AND WHERE DO YOU MEET?

Refuge Church is one church in two locations, Huntsville, AL & Athens, AL.

Huntsville Campus: We meet at 10:30am in Providence Elementary School in Huntsville, AL. The address for the school is 10 Chalkstone Street, Huntsville, AL 35806. Our church entrance is in the back of the school. When you pull in, you’ll see our amazing parking team and the orange Refuge flags.

Athens Campus: Our Athens Campus meets at 10:00am at 1412 Lindsay Lane S, Athens, AL 35613.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Come in what is most comfortable to you because Refuge Church is not about what you look like or what you wear. We are about loving God and loving people. (Matthew 22:37-39)

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?
We believe God is crazy about you and desires a relationship with you. We believe that His Son Jesus became a man and died on a cross for our sins so that we can be forgiven and so that we can find the amazing life He offers for each of us. We believe the Bible is God’s Word that invites us to and instructs us in His best and highest for us. We believe that as you plant yourself at Refuge Church or another life-giving church, you will discover His incredibly good plan for your life through developing an authentic relationship with Him and His people.

WHAT TYPE OF CHURCH IS REFUGE CHURCH?
Refuge Church is a multicultural, non-denominational church that seeks to provide a real, relevant, and enjoyable environment for people to encounter God and be transformed by His love into fully devoted followers of Christ. We seek to share His love with others as we continue in the mission of “being a refuge to a hurting world” in and around Huntsville and Madison County.

WHAT DOES NON-DENOMINATIONAL MEAN?
Non-denominational means we are a Christian church that believes the Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God, but we are not a part of any denomination (Baptist, Lutheran, Episcopalian, etc.). Although we are officially considered “non- denominational”, we prefer the term “interdenominational” because there are so many different denominations and backgrounds represented at Refuge Church, which we believe adds an incredible richness and diversity.

WHO OVERSEES REFUGE CHURCH?
Pastor Jason Parks and his wife Jessica along with over 60 individuals planted Refuge Church on September 8, 2013 underneath the covering of a church planting organization called the Association of Related Churches (For more information on ARC, see next question). Refuge Church has an outside team of Overseers who provide accountability and support to the Refuge Church Pastoral Team. In addition, our finances are overseen by a Board of Trustees. Every January, we provide a financial report to the congregation.

WHAT IS THE ARC?
ARC is an association of related churches created to provide support, guidance, and resources to launch and grow life-giving churches. The organization maintains an annual funding base of $2 million dollars with ARC churches giving over $8 million a year to missions. Today, over 400 churches strong, ARC has become not only a movement, but a collection of many “tribes” – all with a focus of planting those 2000 churches and impacting the world! For more information about ARC, please visit www.arcchurches.com.

WHAT CAN MY CHILDREN/TEENAGERS EXPECT?
At Refuge Church your children will be a top priority. Our nurseries will be clean, safe, and staffed with loving workers. We offer a dynamic preschool and children’s worship experience on Sunday morning, as well as, children’s small groups throughout the week.

Refuge Church has created a Sunday worship experience that students love to be apart of! In addition, we have student small groups that meet throughout the week for life-changing ministry.

HOW DO I GET CONNECTED?
We are so glad that you asked! Helping you get connected is very important to us, because we believe transformation happens best in the context of authentic relationships. We’re here to make this as easy as possible!
The best way to connect is through our Refuge Church Next Steps. This series of three classes will help you plug in and grow at Refuge.

HOW DO I GO TO HEAVEN?
This is our very favorite question! God deeply desires a relationship with you and invites you into a personal relationship with Him. The Bible clearly teaches that we will spend eternity in heaven if we have a personal relationship with God, which is only possible through turning leadership of our life over to Jesus Christ and accepting His gift of forgiveness and eternal life. No matter what you have done in the past or how far from God you feel now, this invitation is for you. Romans 10:9 says, “If you acknowledge and confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to, trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Pastor Jason gives the opportunity to surrender your life to God’s leadership and accept Christ in every service, but you certainly do not need to wait until you are at church to ask God to forgive you, accept Jesus’ free gift of salvation, and to ask Him to lead your life. If you make this decision, we would love to know so that we can celebrate with you and give you some next steps. Luke 15 says that all of heaven rejoices when one person comes to God!

Please let us know this Sunday by indicating this decision on your Connect Card or stopping by the Connection Center. This is the best decision you will ever make! We also have a free gift for you as you make this fresh start with God!

If you have any further questions, we would love to meet with you.

SHOULD I GET BAPTIZED?
Yes! If you have committed your life to God, the Bible teaches every believer should be baptized. Just as a wedding ring is an outward sign of an inward reality, so water baptism is an outward expression of your commitment to Christ. In the book of Acts, we see that baptism is a public proclamation of faith once someone has decided to surrender their life to God. If you were baptized before you made a conscious decision to follow Christ, we recommend signing up to be baptized. Water Baptisms, which take place during once a quarter, are an opportunity for your spiritual family to celebrate with you the best decision of your life.
